Katie Smith

Honours Student

Katie Smith is a Combined Honours Student in the Departments of Biology and Psychology with a specific interest in animal behaviour and conservation. Her research project focuses on the use of environmental DNA (eDNA) to assess American Eel abundance. By collecting water samples from tanks filled with elvers, she hopes to use eDNA concentration to detect elver presence/absence, determine shedding and decay rates, and estimate elver abundance and biomass.
